While The Center for Applied Cognitive Studies mainly trains other consultants, we have a few consultants that work directly with clients and/or work with other consultants and their clients to solve business problems. Our consultants listen to your organization’s issues and problems, develop strategies to address them, work with your team to implement the plan, analyze the results, and present the outcomes. Projects are both long and short-term and solve any number of human resource problems.

Case Study #1

Organization Redesign: Accounts Receivable Department for Major Consumer Goods Manufacturer

Problem:

  • High percentage of Accounts Receivable balances beyond 60 days and trending upward
  • Supervisor to employee ratio at 1:3, while best practice is 1:9
  • Department manager had performance issues, poor morale and personal health deterioration

Solution:

  • Each employee in Accounts Receivable department assessed with WorkPlace
  • Specific job profiles identified using WorkPlace traits and competencies (e.g. manager, team leaders, collection coordinator and several different types of collection clerks)
  • Team member roles reassigned by matching employee trait strengths to defined job profiles:
  • Promoted team leader to manager position
  • Moved manager to collection staff position
  • Assigned collection clerks to specific client positions: full line operators, national chains or seasonal business

Result: 

  • 60 day balances reduced by 93% in 4 years
  • Days of sales outstanding reduced by 8% in 2 years
  • Senior management attributes results to the use of WorkPlace-informed restructuring.

Case Study #2

Validity Study: Leisure Service Provider

Problem:

  • Turnover of general managers at 76% annually

Solution:

  • The Center for Applied Cognitive Studies hired to perform validity study:
  • Performance of all 108 general managers assessed using 15 competencies available through WorkPlace
  • 108 general managers’ personality traits assessed with WorkPlace
  • Multiple regression analysis of WorkPlace scores performed against composite scores and 15 competency scores.
  • Formulas integrated into company’s selection process for general managers

Result:

  • General manager turnover reduced from 76% to 26% in one year
  • WorkPlace discriminated between high performers and low performers with 95% accuracy
  • Because of the success of this validity study, the Center for Applied Cognitive Studies has been engaged in two further validity projects:
  • Analyze last year’s data to update previous validity study
  • Perform another validity study on a different employee population
