CERTIFICATION PROGRAMS

Do you want to help optimize employees at work? Gain insight into your own personality drivers and motivations? Develop a consulting practice helping employers maximize their human resources investment?  The Center for Applied Cognitive Studies certification programs are ideal for participants involved in human performance (human resource specialists, organizational development consultants, business line supervisors, etc.).  A bachelor’s degree or related work experience is recommended.
Attend a certification program, and you will:

  • Be certified to use the WorkPlace Five-Factor Profile™ 4.0
  • Gain insight into your personal Five-Factor Model assessment results
  • Participate in classroom discussion, activities, and exercises including practical case studies and performance applications
  • Practice relating the Five-Factor Model to leadership development, team effectiveness, career planning, coaching individuals, job selection, 360° performance assessment, and selling and influencing through specialized consultant reports
  • Explore the Five-Factor Model, including the historical global shift to adoption as the standard for assessments, current research on personality traits, and a review of existing alternatives to personality measurement
  • Adopt the Center for Applied Cognitive Studies’ code of ethics and how to apply it working with clients

Basic Certification Program: 2½ days
Monday - Wednesday (a.m. only)

Taught in a face-to-face classroom setting, the Basic Certification Program provides complete introductory training for understanding and interpreting the WorkPlace 4.0. Participants experience an initial feedback session and participate in a variety of activities and exercises that teach the basic elements of the WorkPlace 4.0. Over the two and a half days, participants practice applying their knowledge to work-related case studies that progress from the five supertraits, to the 23 subtraits, to the 54 trait-based competencies. Participants learn about the Howards’ Human Resource Optimization Model (including the various competency “fit” strategies: Develop, Support, Compensate, Caution, and Capitalize) and how to apply the model. Specific WorkPlace 4.0 reports covered during the class include:

  • The Trait Report
  • The Narrator Report
  • The Trait Capacitor Report
  • The Consultant’s Report

Participants receive all the reports listed above for themselves as well as their own copies of:

  • The Professional Manual for the WorkPlace Big Five Profile 4.0™
  • The WorkPlace Big Five Profile™ Workbook
  • The WorkPlace Big Five Profile 4.0™ Certification Program Notebook
  • The Owner’s Manual for Personality at Work

The basic program features a Pre-requisite, Online, Multi-Modal Program which typically takes from 2 to 10 hours to complete depending upon a participant’s level of knowledge and experience with personality assessments. Covered in the Online Multi-Modal Program are technical fundamentals that users need to know such as:

  • The History of the Five-Factor Model of Personality
  • Sources of Personality (including current research on Genetics & Environment)
  • Trait Theory
  • Ethics
  • Psychometrics (including Validity and Reliability of the WorkPlace)

The Center recommends that participants allow enough time after registration to take the Pre-requisite, Online Multi-Model Program before attending the Basic Certification Program.

Three In-Depth WorkPlace Specialized Work Application Programs (SWAPs)

SWAP 1: Building Teams: ½ Day
Wednesday, 1- 5 pm
Price: $400

One of the primary ways the WorkPlace 4.0 is used by consultants is in providing an excellent data source for team building or organizational development situations. During this in-depth, ½-day, Specialized Work Application Program (SWAP), participants practice interpreting case studies of actual teams using Supertraits and Supertraits/Subtraits of the WorkPlace 4.0. In addition, participants receive a copy of The Teamer, a Special Report designed especially for teams that contains the WorkPlace scores of the class participants as if they were an actual work team. The Teamer results are discussed by the participant group. Participants must attend the Basic Certification Program before attending the Building Teams SWAP.

SWAP 2: Coaching Leaders & Planning Careers: 1 Day
Thursday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm

For WorkPlace users who plan to incorporate the WorkPlace in such business contexts as executive coaching, leadership training, career development, and 360° surveying, the Center recommends that users attend this in-depth, 1-Day SWAP after the Basic Certification Program. As part of this SWAP, participants receive their own results on two important special reports that are based upon the WorkPlace 4.0:

  • The Leader
  • The Career Guider

During the session participants:

  • Prepare and practice established coaching steps for giving feedback using actual case studies and their own individual reports
  • Review the various report modules of The Leader
  • Review the various report modules of The Career Guider
  • Discuss key elements of a WorkPlace-based leadership training program
  • Explore the options available in the WorkPlace 360°Survey provided by the Center

SWAP 3: Selection A to Z: ½ day
Friday, 8:30 am – 12:30 pm

For consultants who plan to use the WorkPlace 4.0 to profile jobs and select the best fitting person for the job, the Center recommends attending this in-depth Specialized Work Application Program (SWAP) on selection after attending the Basic Certification Program. All steps in a typical selection process are covered whether you have incumbents or are creating a new position. Discussion is based upon actual selection projects and participants receive sample copies of:

  • The Job Profiler for Traits
  • The Job Profiler for Competencies
  • The Interview Guide

Qualification: The Center for Applied Cognitive Studies does permit qualified individuals to purchase assessments and products without certification. If you have earned at least a bachelor’s degree in Psychology, with courses in statistics, test and measurement and personality theory, you may apply for qualification.
